Alexandrite and Nd:YAG lasers mixed
The Thunder laser is a cutting edge device offering up to two laser wavelengths, 755 nm and 1064 nm, in single or combined emission by the proprietary Mixed Technology. This combination represents right now the new Gold Standard for hair removal, dermatological vascular lesions and skin rejuvenation treatments. With the proven, effective and safe Mixed Technology the overcoming of traditional practices is now a reality.
Mixed Laser Technology
The Mixed Technology performs the largest range of hair removal applications, as well as vascular and rejuvenation treatments.
Due to the proprietary Mixed Technology, the Thunder MT allows the operator to select easily single or double wavelength emissions, using simultaneous or sequential pulses that can be adjusted according to the patient’s needs.
The Simultaneous Emission has been developed for Permanent Hair Reduction. The Mixed Technology combines two different laser wavelengths in a single emission with programmable energy and pulse duration. The synergy of the two wavelengths is able to completely denature the hair follicles with improved safety even in dark skin conditions thanks to the reduced energy requested. Under these conditions, epidermal temperature results reduced with improved safety and effectiveness.
The Sequential Emission has been developed for Vascular Treatments and Skin Rejuvenation.
The Vascular treatment for the removal of facial and leg telangiectasia (thread veins) uses the Mixed Technology to guarantee a best result using the lowest fluences taking advantage of the different absorption of hemoglobin and methemoglobin.
The Skin Rejuvenation optimizes the effect Alexandrite has on pigmentations and that one Nd:YAG has on skin tightening just in one session with a significative decrease of session times.
Two wavelengths (Nd:YAG Pulsed & Alexandrite Pulsed) in Gold Standards, mixed emission for treatments tailored to any need.
- Reduced thermal energy, so less pain
- Effective on all skin type
- Effective on all skin colours
- Safe on all skin types including dark skins
- Increased results for treating vascular conditions as opposed to Nd:YAG alone
- Increased results for skin rejuvenation
- Quick treatments times
- All year around treatments
Why do I need mixed technology?
A difficulty in laser hair-removal has centred around the ability to treat dark skins with fine hair. The Quanta Thunder laser is the ultimate platform system for this problem by mixing together in one laser-pulse the 2 gold standard wavelengths of hair removal. By adding a proportion of Alexandrite into the safety of a Nd:YAG pulse fine hairs can be treated on all skin type’s.
Alexandrite (755nm) laser is regarded as the gold standard for hair-removal for skin types 1-3/4 due to the high absorption of this wavelengths in melanin (colouring for hair) This increased affinity means Alexandrite is the gold standard for treating thin, fine and light coloured hairs with little melanin.
Nd:YAG (1064nm) laser is the safest wavelength for treating all skin type’s which means it can be used on dark skin type up to and including skin type 6. It has a low melanin absorption so the wavelengths is not absorbed by colour hence its safety in treating dark skin type’s. It targets the germative cell of the hair follicle of the vascular supply of the hair follicle. This means that this system provides the best possible results.

Recommended Laser Hair Removal
Most people contact The Angel Laser Clinic because they have unwanted hair on their faces, backs, legs, underarms, arms or bikini areas. Many come to the clinic following a recommendation from a friend. Others have typed search terms into Google like:
- Permanent laser hair removal or
- Affordable laser hair removal or
- Laser hair removal Islington and have come across our website.
Some clients fed up with shaving every few days or waxing every few weeks are researching the topic for the first time. They typically look at the pros and cons of laser hair removal versus IPL. (In a nutshell, a laser is probably a bit more expensive but it’s safer and far more effective for hair removal. It’s able to achieve higher peak energies and can direct this to kill the hair follicle. The energy from an IPL spreads right through the skin, increasing possible complications. IPL is therefore more commonly recommended for treating skin conditions than for hair removal).
A fair proportion of those opting for laser hair removal also research which type of laser they should use. They choose The Angel Laser Clinic because we use the top of the market Thunder laser and Cynosure Elite. This medical grade lasers combines the Alexandrite (for people with light skins) and the Nd:Yag (the laser of choice for treating Asian, Middle Eastern, Latin and Black skins).
Some of our clients have had laser treatments before, often in high street salons or clinics. They may have felt their treatments lacked a personal touch – rather more like being on a conveyor belt. They might also be looking for something a bit more private and discreet than a high street clinic. The Angel Laser Clinic is set in a well lit, quiet courtyard in Islington, between Upper Street and Liverpool Road, N1. This location is ideal for clients who wish to keep the type of treatment they are having private.
Lastly, people come to the clinic because it is centrally located and easy to reach – a short walk from both the Northern Line (Angel) and the Victoria Line (Highbury and Islington). Given the location of the clinic, many clients come from Islington itself. That said, we’ve had clients coming from as far afield as Hertfordshire, Essex and even 2 from Norway, as our prices make laser hair removal affordable!
Laser hair removal and tanning
Tanned skin is not suitable for laser treatments
People with tanned skin were traditionally advised not to have laser hair removal treatments because it could change their natural skin pigmentation. At The Angel Laser Clinic we use the medical grade Cynosure Elite and Thunder lasers. The thunder’s revolutionary technology combines two optimal wavelengths in one system: the 755-nm Alexandrite laser and the 1064-nm Nd:YAG laser. Since the practitioner can switch and combine wavelengths during a single procedure, they can select the most appropriate laser for any given hair or skin type.
Laser hair removal on dark skin
During a laser hair removal treatment, some of the light energy is directed onto the skin where the unwanted hair is located. The skin absorbs some of this energy before it reaches the hair follicles. How much energy is absorbed will be determined by the skin colour. Tanned skin has a greater tendency absorb light energy and this can cause burning or discoloration after treatment if the wrong laser technology is used. At The Angel Laser Clinic, you can start or continue having your treatment four week after tanning with the our Thunder or Cynosure lasers. Always check before your holiday when the best time is to book your next appointment.
Tanning lotions and laser hair removal treatment
Sunless tanning creams have the same affect on skin as normal exposure to the sun. These creams also change the skin’s pigmentation, and can alter how effective laser hair removal treatments are. The patient should avoid using these creams for several months before having a treatment.
After laser hair removal
The treated areas may be sensitive. If you are expecting to be exposed to the sun you need to be aware of the side effects and that exposure to direct sunlight could harm the skin or cause discoloration. Patients can use a high SPF factor sunscreen to protect the treated areas.

What is acne?
Primarily a hormonal condition driven by male or ‘androgenic’ hormones, acne is a localized skin inflammation produced by an over activity of the oil glands at the base of hair follicles. It is characterized by the appearance of skin lesions as a result of folliculitis, an inflammation and subsequent infection of follicular pores (hair outlet). Both men and women have testosterone circulating in the blood, but in the acne sufferer, testosterone has a profound effect on the skin.
Typically presents in adolescence, acne affects 80% of this population group due to an interaction between hormones, sebum and bacteria living on the skin or inside of it and also in the hair. During puberty, acne increases the activity of the sebaceous glands of the skin with an excessive sebum production. Scaly debris and bacteria can accumulate in the pores of the skin forming a comedo, which prevents the sebum from hair follicles flow through the pores. If the blockage is incomplete blackheads are formed; if complete, white spots appear.
Acne manifests clinically with different types of injuries, and several of them may occur in the same patient. These lesions may be inflammatory and non-inflammatory. Bacteria normally present in the skin, called P.acnes, multiplies in the clogged follicle and results in inflammation. The bacteria break down the oil to very inflammatory chemicals which cause redness, pus formation and pain. If the inflammation is right near the surface, you get a pustule; if it’s deeper, a papule (pimple); deeper still and it’s a cyst. If the pore of the affected hair follicle is closed to the surface, the result is a “whitehead.” If the pore is wide open, oil becomes oxidized (that is, acted on by oxygen in the air), the oil changes from white to black, and the result is a “blackhead.”
Acne can leave scars which are permanent. Acne attacks two structures: 1 the pore; blocking it and 2 the sebaceous gland -more oil is produced, which gives an oily complexion
If the inflammation is deep and severe, or if the spot is squeezed and pus bursts deep into the skin rather than onto the surface then this inflammation and infection could result in scarring and cyst formation.
What treatments are available?
At the Angel Laser Clinic we have a team of laser practitioners that can offer expert advice about laser treatment for acne.
- Laser treatment: Regenlite pulse dye laser, Revlite laser, Thunder laser, Byonik laser and blue light therapy

What is laser therapy for acne?
Laser therapy is a technology that enables the management of inflammatory skin conditions without any discomfort, downtime or residual cell necrosis. It offers rapid results within 2-4 weeks after single treatments, results lasting 12+ weeks on all grades of acne
Regenlite (also known as Nlite) is a laser which was the first laser to receive full FDA clearance for the treatment of inflammatory acne. Following a clinical study by Professor Chu published in the Lancet; Regenlite is proven to be comparable if not superior to existing medication for the treatment of acne with no side effects and long term results. In this study 87% of patients achieved significant improvement.
How does it work?
Our lasers deliver a specific wavelength of laser light into the skin which both targets the bacteria which causes infection and at the same time stimulates the skins immune systems to reduce inflammation and repair the damage caused by infection. Laser can also promote the production of collagen so can also improve the skin structure and texture and smooth scarring.
By using patented laser cavity design, our laser initiates a biostimulatory effect in the tissue that support down-regulation of any localised inflammatory cascade and resolve active dermatological disorder.
This unique biostimulatory effect in the tissue enhances the skins wound healing response over and above the normal levels of response without having to create a trauma unlike the mechanism of most laser and light therapies. And everything with no pain or side effects
Is it painful?
No, our laser uses low level laser energy and is therefore pain free. You will feel a mild warming as the laser passes over the skin.
Is it safe?
Yes. Laser is completely safe. Many clinical studies have been published proving both safety and efficacy.
How many treatments are required?
For acne treatment 8 treatments are recommended, one every two weeks. We can then assess as to whether additional treatments would be beneficial. The improvement can normally be seen after 3 months. Most patients with acne will need periodic treatment every 9 to 12 months. You may also be recommended specific skincare creams to assist in unblocking pores and clearing the skin.
